Work in the ‘Secret Garden’ area.

Tackled another stretch of wall which borders a public walkway. Here follow three sets of before-and-after, then right along the wall and the corner at the end. Now don’t we show you the most picturesque views?

Looking up the east path. The tree nearest the camera was used by four families of bird this year. Robins, Treecreepers and Wrens (twice) selected various parts of the tree to build nests and rear their young. There were three lots doing so at once!

The ‘Red Lady’ memorial. This is what remains of what was a lovely white marble structure built in 1865 for Mary Ann Robertson. The title comes from the colour of light provided by the red glass roof which bathed the interior of this mortuary chapel. It was finally demolished in the late 1980s after years of vandalism.

A Comma butterfly in section G. The Comma gets its name from the white mark, on the underside of its wings, that resembles that punctuation mark. The 4th photo is of a Poppy at the James Young Simpson memorial which is immediately to the east of the catacombs.

Goldcrest. June 7th 2016.

This Goldcrest was bathing in ‘The Trickle of Leith’ which is a ribbon of spring water that leads under the tunnel. The Goldcrest is Britain’s smallest bird and there have been many sightings in Warriston cemetery.
